Santali Notepad 2.2

In honoring Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the Santali Notepad has been created specifically for the Santali community. This tool enables users to write, save, share, and send texts in Ol Chiki (Ol Cemet’).

The interface features a three-part keyboard: an Ol Chiki (Ol Cemet’) keyboard, a Devanagari keyboard, and an English keyboard. This arrangement accommodates nearly all characters utilized by Santali writers.

The Devanagari keyboard includes support for all vowel matras. To utilize consonant matras and compound consonants in Devanagari, users are advised to employ the 'Virama (Halant)' function.

Selecting text is straightforward; simply drag your finger over the desired portion. Additionally, users can manipulate various text properties such as color, size, boldness, italicization, and background color by utilizing the buttons located at the top of the interface.

A menu accessible via a button located at the top left corner (represented by three vertical dots) offers a range of options. These include 'new document', 'copy selected text', 'copy all text', 'paste text', 'delete file', 'insert image', and 'delete image'. The corresponding actions can be initiated from this menu.

To save a document, users can select the 'save file' option within the common menu. Accessing saved documents is also facilitated through the 'open file' option in the same menu.

Options for sharing Santali text content as an image are readily available. Users can share their content across various applications, including SMS/MMS, Email, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and WhatsApp, by clicking the 'share' button on the left. Upon activation of this button, a pop-up menu will prompt users to choose to send the content as text, an image, or a PDF. If opting for 'as text', only the textual content will be shared. For 'as image', content will be converted to JPEG format before sharing. Note that for Android versions prior to Kitkat, sharing as PDF is not supported. Furthermore, it is important to note that when only text content is shared, rendering accuracy will depend on the receiving device and application.

The application allows for adding a background image that can be moved and resized using finger gestures. A toggle button labeled 'T' at the top facilitates switching between text and image editing modes; while in image mode, users can adjust the background image accordingly.

When users click on the writing area located beneath the toolbar, a keyboard will appear. Tapping outside this area will hide the keyboard; alternatively, it can be concealed explicitly using the 'Hide' key found on the keyboard.

An auto-prediction feature enhances user experience by suggesting probable words as typing progresses. A suggestion window appears above the keyboard; tapping on any of these suggestions will automatically insert that word into your text. The app adapts to include new words entered by users and prioritizes frequently used words in future suggestions.

This application promises to enrich the writing experience for Santali speakers.
